State Police to Swear In 36 New Troopers

The graduates emerged from a group of 1,600 applicants, and survived 22 weeks of paramilitary training.

The Rhode Island State Police force is about to grow as 36 new troopers are set to graduate from the training academy Friday.

Gov. Lincoln Chafee is scheduled to join Colonel Steven G. O’Donnell, Attorney General Peter Kilmartin and U.S. Attorney Peter Neronha to swear in the new officers during a ceremony at Rhode Island College Friday at 1 p.m. The graduation ceremony culminates 22 weeks of intensive paramilitary training that began in July. The 36 new troopers survived to get their badge numbers from an original group of 1,600 applicants.
