Someone Stole a Bench from Stony Lane Elementary

The bench reportedly weighed several hundred pounds.

Someone stole a stone bench that weighs a few hundred pounds from Stony Lane Elementary School over Memorial Day Weekend.

Police said Principal Edward Ferrario reported the incident on May 28.

The bench was located in the school yard in a playground area behind the school.

Two similar benches remained in the yard. The last time the bench was seen was on Friday afternoon on May 23.

The bench had been in the yard for several years without incident, police said. Though the bench wasn't bolted down, it is heavy.

The bench is described as looking like a concrete tree trunks with a 3-foot flat piece lying across across.

The weight of the bench suggests the act was not carried out by a single person.

Police are investigating.
