Police Seek Man Seen at URI Library

According to state police, there is no established connection between the man wanted from the library and the lockdown at URI on Thursday.

The University of Rhode Island Police Department is looking for a man involved in an incident at the campus library Friday night.

The university provided no details of the incident in a press release, but said it has nothing to do with police locking down the campus Thursday after unfounded reports of a man with a gun.

The man shown in the attached photo is described as a white male with a buzz haircut, clean-shaven, about 6-feet-tall and 220 pounds with a muscular build. He has a receding hairline and appears to be between 27 to 33 years of age.

"At this time, we have no evidence that there is a connection between the events of last Thursday and the report from the library," a university press release reads.

However, the URI Police are asking for assistance in identifying the person in this photo who was last seen in the Library on Friday evening.

Anyone who may know the identity of the man is asked to call the URI Police at 874-2121.

As a precaution after Thursday's scare, URI and South Kingstown police have an increased presence on the Kingston campus today, according to a release. Classes are being held today and the campus is following its regular daily schedule. Counseling services continue to be available to any student needing support (874-2288).

State police continue to investigate Thursday's gun scare at the Chafee Social Science Center. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the State Police at 444-1000 or URI police at 874-2121.

The fears about the incident in the library were spurred by a report on URI Confessions, a Facebook group that students can anonymously contribute to. We’ve included a screen shot of the original report from there, which was made on Sunday night.
