Police Log: Flying Shoe, Burning Butt & Serious Shoplifting

Information about the following incidents was supplied by the North Kingstown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Tuesday, Nov. 5

11:10 a.m. – Police arrested a Cranston woman, 24, for driving with a suspended license (failure to appear/pay), after she was pulled over on Post Road for speeding. Routine checks turned up the license violation. She was taken into custody and her car was towed from the scene.

1:29 p.m. – Police arrested a West Warwick woman 25, and a Coventry woman, 19, on charges of shoplifting and conspiracy after they allegedly filled a shopping cart with merchandise at Walmart, then walked out without paying. Upon questioning, the two admitting to taking the merchandise. The West Warwick woman told police she'd heard it was easy to shoplift from Walmart and she needed clothes for a new job she'd started and some diapers for her child. The two women were going to meet two men in the parking lot, but the women said the men were not involved in the plan to shoplift. In total, according to the police report, the women stole 111 items valued at $893.90.

10:35 p.m. – Police assisted NKFD at a house fire on Heritage Road. Upon arrival, police saw flames coming from the front of the house, from the ground to the roof. Two residents were outside and they said everyone was out of the house and no one had been injured. When another resident arrived on the scene, he said he'd smoked a cigarette on the front steps earlier in the afternoon and had left it stubbed out in a can under the bushes next to the steps, in the same place where the fire was. 

11:08 p.m. – Police arrested a North Kingstown, 61, for domestic simple assault and domestic disorderly conduct after she allegedly threw a shoe at her husband, 74, causing him to bleed, during an argument that began over plans to visit their grandchildren. The woman was taken into custody, processed and arraigned before a justice of the peace. She was released on $5,000 personal recognizance. A no-contact order was placed between her and her husband.

Wednesday, Nov. 6

9:46 p.m. – The executive director of Quonset Air Museum told police over the past three months some of the vehicles and equipment within the museum had been tampered with. He asked police to document the tampering. 

7:07 p.m. – A North Kingstown woman told police someone broken into her car by smashing the front passenger side window while it was parked outside of Planet Fitness on Frenchtown Road. Her briefcase, which contained a tablet, glasses, boots, scarf, charging cables and paperwork – was missing. Planet Fitness does not have cameras outside.

11:49 p.m. – Police arrested a Cumberland woman, 26, for driving without a license after she was stopped by police for speeding on Route 4. She was taken into custody and her car was towed from the scene.

Thursday, Nov. 7

8:50 a.m. – Police arrested a Johnston woman, 28, on a 3rd District Court bench warrant and for driving with a suspended license, after she was stopped for speeding on Callahan Road. Routine checks turned up both violations. She was taken to Kent County Courthouse and turned over to the sheriff's custody.

10:24 p.m. – Police arrested an North Kingstown man, 54, for driving with a suspended license after he was stopped for speeding on Davisville Road. Routine checks turned up the license violation. The man's wife arrived to drive the car home and the man was taken into custody, processed and given a District Court summons.

Friday, Nov. 8

3:58 p.m. – Police arrested an Exeter woman, 46, for driving with a suspended license after she was stopped for ignoring a stop sign on Shermantown Road. Routine checks turned up the license violation. She was taken into custody, processed and released with citations and a court summons. Her car was towed from the scene.
