Police Log: Observant Neighbor Alerts Residents To Fire

Information about the following incidents was supplied by the North Kingstown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.


Wednesday, May 29

5:33 p.m. – Police arrested Kelsey Rose Hoehn, 24, of Middle Street, for driving with a suspended license, after she was stopped while driving north on Tower Hill Road with no front license plate. Hoehn was processed at the police station, issued a district court summons and released.

7:43 a.m. – A housing complex manager asked police to issue no-trespass orders against two former tenants. One of the former tenants is facing assault charges against his mother; the other former tenant had been seen begging for food, money and other assistance and possibly trying to regain entry to her former apartment. Neither person has a fixed address, so the orders could not be delivered. Patrol division members were notified of the two orders.

5:06 p.m. – A North Kingstown man told police some jewelry was stolen from his house, possibly during a party at his residence in which a few of the guests were unknown to the man.

4:03 p.m. – Police arrest Zachary I. Wallace, 23, of King Phillip Drive, for shoplifting some jewelry from Kohl’s after the store contacted police because they suspected he was shoplifting. Wallace admitted having taken some jewelry. He was taken into custody, processed, then released with a court summons. The manager of Kohl’s asked police to issue a no-trespass order against Wallace.

Tuesday, June 4

1:23 a.m. – Police arreested Seth Gary Wolfenden, 22, of Ogden Avenue in Warwick, for driving while intoxicated, refusing to take a chemical blood alcohol test, and possessing marijuana after he was stopped on Tower Hill Road for speeding. Wolfenden appeared to be drunk when police talked to him so he took a field sobriety test, which he failed. While police were inventorying the car for the tow company, they found a baggie containing marijuana as well as several unopened beer cans and one opened can. At the station, Wolfenden asked to use the bathroom. Police saw him try to flush a small bag of what looked like marijuana into the toilet.

3:17 a.m. – Police assisted NK Fire at a house fire on Floral Avenue. The owners of the house told police they had been sleeping but were woken up by their neighbors and got out of the house. From outside, they could see smoke and flames coming from the back of the house. The neighbor said he smelled smoke when he got up to use the bathroom. He looked out the window and saw flames and smoke, then immediately ran outside and starting banding on the front door of the burning house to wake up the occupants. The fire marshall said the fire did not appear to be suspicious.

Wednesday, June 5

9:03 a.m. – Two members of the SeaBee Museum’s board of directors told police two radiators had been stolen from museum vehicles in the past 7 to 10 days. The parts were valued at about $500 each.

12:59 p.m. – A Stony Fort Road resident told police a storm door was damaged while she was away for a few days. It was unclear whether something was thrown at the door (nothing was found) or some other reason.

2:11 p.m. – The owner of an auto body shop on Frenchtown Road told police a tow-truck driver picking up a totaled vehicle caused hazardous material from the vehicle to spill all over the parking lot. After the tow truck driver became aware of the spillage, he allegedly said “my bad,” and drove away.

8:24 p.m. – Police arrested Frank William Sheperis, 65, of Asqah Drive, of driving while intoxicated on Post Road. Sheperis told police he was coming from the End Zone, then changed his mind and said it was the All American Bar & Grille. Sheperis failed a field sobriety test. At the station, he took the breath test and showed a blood alcohol count of .232 percent and .230 percent. Sheperis was charged with DUI, greater than .15 percent as well as receiving a landed-roadway violation.

Thursday, June 6

12:24 a.m. – A Newport man told police while driving south on Boston Neck Road, someone driving in the opposite direction had sideswiped him, then left the scene.

10:12 p.m. – Police arrested Alexandra N. Gincastro, 38, of Pilgrim Drive, on a bench warrant, after police went to her residence to act on the warrant. She was processed at the station then taken to the ACI.

Friday, June 7

3:55 p.m. – A Kohl’s employee told police a North Kingstown woman had shoplifted more than $200 worth of clothing earlier in the day, but she had disappeared from the scene after leaving the clothing in a car in the parking lot. Police issued an arrest warrant.
