Police Log: Cell Phone Scam, Underage Drinking

Information about the following incidents was supplied by the North Kingstown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Monday, Dec. 30

8:59 a.m. – Police arrested Robyn Miranda Crawford, 26, of Snuff Mill Road, for larceny under $1,500, in connection with the purchase of six different cell phone accounts using a family member's personal information, including Social Security number and credit information. Crawford told police opening the different accounts allowed her to get six cell phones free of charge, which she was then selling on Craigslist. Meanwhile, the family member would be on the hook for the multiple contracts. She was taken into custody, processed at the station, then released with a district court summons.

10:38 a.m. – A representative of Stony Lane Baptist Church told police a parishioner had observed a suspicious man in the parking lot looking into the parked cars between 10:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday. Nothing was reported missing.

2:31 p.m. – A Sauga Avenue resident told police someone had vandalized two posts at the beginning of a trail leading to the water. One post was lying on the ground, broken at the base, and the other had been struck and leaving a large indentation. He said he had placed the posts, but that they were on town land. The resident told police he thought it was a neighbor. Police spoke with the neighbor, who first admitted hitting the posts with his truck, then recanted, then complained about the posts blocking his passage to the water. The Sauga Avenue resident said he didn't want to pursue charges.

4:24 p.m. – The owner of a building on Davisville Road that was recently damaged by fire told police boards he'd placed on the building to secure it had been removed to gain access inside. Police toured the building with the owner and found nothing amiss.
