Police Log: Drugs Found, Canoe Stolen, DUIs, Fraud

The following arrest and incident information was provided by North Kingstown Police. They do not indicate a conviction.

LANDORD ISSUE

North Kingstown Police responded to a Main Street apartment on April 7 after a landlord said she was having issues with a tenant who was six weeks behind on rent and caught smoking in her apartment, which is a lease violation.

Police said the issue was a civil matter and documented the incident.

The tenant reportedly agreed to move out.

FAKE SNOW SCARE

Police said a North Kingstown mother called police on April 7 after she was concerned about her child tasting “salts” on the school bus that afternoon.

Police said the mother was concerned about what the child tasted and police were able to determine that the salts in question were actually sodium polyacrylate, which is non-toxic and used to make fake snow.

Police said the substance was used in a classroom at Hamilton Elementary School and the mother was notified of their findings.

ANNOYING PHONE CALLS

A 65-year-old North Kingstown woman told police on April 7 that she’s been getting numerous phone calls and text messages.

The calls and messages either come from the same number or a blocked number.

Police said the woman said she never answers the phone, but recently, one of the calls went to voicemail and muffled noises and voices could be heard in the background, but none of it was comprehensible.

Police said the phone number traced to San Antonio in Texas.

The woman was warned of rampant scams taking place and advised not to return any phone calls.

Police are investigating.

DRUGS FOUND

North Kingstown Police seized 4 grams of marijuana and 16 Percocet pills from a Main Street apartemnt after the landlord reported discovering the drugs while cleaning out a former tenant’s apartment.

Police said the drugs were found under a mattress inside a plastic bag.

WARNING

North Kingstown Police warned a 60-year-old Providence man to stop going to the Dunkin Donuts at 6923 Post Road after he reportedly has been getting coffee and donuts even though there is a no-tresspass order.

Police said the order was instituted after an incident several months ago when he was caught masturbating in the bathroom and allegedly harassing staff.

Police tracked the man down at his place of employment and warned him that he would be charged if he kept going to the Dunkin Donuts as long as the no-tresspass order remained in effect.

CAR ENTERED

A Richmond woman told police on April 10 that someone rummaged through her car while it was parked in the Park and Ride on Quaker Lane.

Police said the victim was sure she locked her car when she left, but when she returned, the lock was popped out and the contents of the center console were strewn about the inside of the car.

Police said a knife and a pair of prescription sunglasses were stolen from the car.

Police are investigating.

FRAUD

North Kingstown Police were told by a Birchwood Drive woman on April 11 that someone has been fraudulently using her Social Security number.

Police said the woman became aware of the fraud when she went to open a bank account and was told that she owed money at another bank that she claims she never opened.

Police documented the incident.

DUI

North Kingstown police charged Donald L. Archambault, 47, of 2261 Victory Lane, Coventry, with driving under the influence and refusing a chemical test April 12 at 1:18 a.m.

Police said Archembault was stopped for speeding and crossing the lane markers.

He later failed a field sobriety test.

Police charged Makayla Marie Myers, 21, of 79 Pettigrew Drive, Warwick, with driving under the influence after she was stopped for driving below the 50 mph speed limit on Route 138 shortly after midnight.

Police said Myers failed a field sobriety test and registered .193 and .191 in two breath tests at police headquarters.

UNDERAGE POSSESSION

Police charged John Gary Smith Jr., 19, of 26 Hornet Road, North Kingstown, with underage possession of alcohol after he was in a car that was stopped for rolling past a stop sign on Fletcher and North Quidnessett Road.

Police said they found a 30 pack of Bud Light in the back of the car where Smith was sitting.

The driver was summonsed for not obeying a stop sign.

CANOE STOLEN

Police are investigating the theft of a canoe from a Haverhill Avenue home on April 11.

Police said the resident last saw the canoe on April 11 and discovered it was missing the following day.

BIKE FOUND

A Edmond Drive resident told police on April 12 that he found a bicycle near his house that didn’t belong to anyone who lived there.

Police said the bike is a seven-speed silver and blue Maxim MGX Element.

Police secured the bike.

WARRANTS

Police charged Prachit Seing Vorabouth, 31, of 326 Burnside Ave., Woonsocket, with a warrant April 10 at around 3 p.m.

Police said they stopped a car on Post Road for speeding and discovered Vorabouth was a passenger inside the car.

The warrant was for possession of a stolen motor vehicle out of Johnston.

Vorabouth was taken into custody without incident.

On April 10 at 10:30 p.m., police charged Meghan M. Pardee, 22 of 36 Knollwood Circle, North Kingstown, with a warrant after she was seen getting out of a car in the Kingstown Bowl parking lot by an officer on routine patrol.

The warrant was for failing to appear in court on a receiving stolen goods charge.
