Police Log: Car Thefts, Missing Boat & More Shoplifting

Information about the following incidents was supplied by the North Kingstown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Saturday, Nov. 9

12:12 p.m. – The owner of Wickford Antiques Estate Liquidators on Ten Rod Road told police one of the two large cast iron urns that sit in front of his store went missing overnight. The urn is approximately 4 feet tall, weighs 450 pounds, and is valued at $2,200.

6:46 p.m. – Police arrested Joshua T. Cooke, 21, of Kingston Road in South Kingstown, for shoplifting and resisting arrest after he allegedly walked out of Wal-Mart on Ten Rod Road without paying for a Turtle Wax Headlight Restoration Kit, refused to return to the store after approached by a Wal-Mart employee, then tried to move away from police after he was apprehended.

11:55 p.m. – Police arrested Louis A. Ferrazzano, 19, of Dyer Avenue in Cranston, on a bench warrant for failing to appear after he was pulled over on Route 4 for speeding.

7:44 a.m. – Two Thelma Irene Drive residents told police their cars were broken into overnight while parked, unlocked, in the driveway. Among the missing items were $200 cash, two purses, and a digital camera.

10:46 a.m. – A Massachusetts man reported the theft of his boat and trailer from where he had left them on Flatfish Alley at the end of Intrepid Drive. A lock used to secure the trailer was on the ground, cut. The boat was a 24-foot Seabird. 

11:14 a.m. – A Yorktown Road man told police his backpack leaf-blower was missing. He said he'd last seen it Nov. 1, when he'd put it in his shed. The leaf-blower is an red Echo worth about $425.

1:19 p.m. – Police arrested Cidalia Maria Baptista, 29, of Dayton Court, on a bench warrant for failing to appear, after police were called to Dayton Court. She was processed at the station then transferred to the ACI.

8:38 p.m. – Police arrested Channah L. Wheelock, 22, of Amherst Street in Providence, and Tiffany K. Gilbert, 21, of Yorktown Road in NK, for shoplifting and conspiracy, after they allegedly walked out of the Wal-Mart on Ten Road Road without paying for a backpack full of merchandise. A store employee watched the women as they selected items from throughout the store and put them in a backpack at the bottom of their shopping cart. They paid for a few items at self-checkout, but walked out of the store with the backpack full of unpaid-for items. The women admitted to taking the items, which totaled $210.77. 

Tuesday, Nov. 12

2:15 p.m. – Police arrested Rosa Maria Lopez, 44, of Tell Street in Providence, for driving without a license and obstructing police after she was pulled over on Ten Rod Road after allegedly making an illegal left turn. When police reached the car, Lopez was on the phone. She told police she was getting her license number from her friend because she didn't have her license with her. She handed police a paper with a license number and a name on it, the same name she had just finished asking the person on the phone how to spell. Police ran the license number; it came back to a 26-year-old woman. When police noted that Lopez appeared to be older than 26, she gave her real name and said she did not have a license.
