Police Log: Broken Breakup, Angry Arrestee

Information about the following incidents was supplied by the North Kingstown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Sunday, June 2

9:33 a.m. – Police arrested John Gilbert Mischler, 34, of Ten Rod Road, for driving without consent of the owner, driving with a suspended license and disorderly conduct after his girlfriend said he took her car without permission the night before and then was found passed out in the car in front of Mike’s Auto Body at around 7 a.m. There was a trail of antifreeze coming from the car, indicating the car had been in an accident. By the time NK Police arrived, his girlfriend told them Mischler was walking north on Tower Hill Road. Police found him lying by the side of the road. He smelled of alcohol but was initially cooperative. While police were talking to his girlfriend, Mischler began yelling, denying he had been driving the car. He started kicking the windows of the police car and yelling obscenities. When police asked him to get out of the police car, he threatened to kick their asses and kill them. Mischler was taken into custody, arraigned Sunday night and released with a no contact order for his girlfriend.

12:17 p.m. – A North Kingstown man told police he’d recently broken up with a woman and the two were on friendly terms but he’d received several text messages telling him to get back with the woman “if he knows what is good for him.” The text messages came from several different numbers but most were from one. The former girlfriend said she knew nothing about the text messages. Police were continuing to investigate.

When police talked to him, he said he had been joking.
