Police Log: Assault By Snowball, Boat Thefts

Information about the following incidents was supplied by the North Kingstown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Wednesday, Dec. 18

9:45 a.m. – The owner of shellfishing boat docked at the Town Wharf said someone had taken a portable 6-gallon gas tank from the boat sometime overnight. He said there were footprints in the snow leading to and from the boat and other boats. Later in the day, another boat owner told police a 12-volt deep cycle marine battery was missing from his boat. 

4:08 p.m. – Police arrested Gladys S. Richard, 56, for simple assault after an altercation with a neighbor in which Richard allegedly slapped her. Police took her into custody, processed her at the station and released her with a district court summons. She was also issued a no-trespass order for her neighbor's apartment.

4:08 p.m. – Police arrested Arthur Hart Washburn VI, 51, of Tower Hill Road, on a bench warrant from Fourth District Court after he was a witness to the assault mentioned above. Routine checks turned up the warrant. He was taken into custody and released later on bail.

10:30 p.m. – Police arrested Douglas Davidson, 51, Ten Rod Road, on a bench warrant from Third District Court after he was stopped while walking on the roadway of Tower Hill Road with a companion. He was taken into custody, processed and transported to the Adult Correctional Institutions.

Thursday, Dec. 19

11:29 a.m. – A Shermantown resident told police her husband, from whom she is getting a divorce, smashed two cameras, a flash and four lenses after she and their child sought refuge in a hotel after an argument. She said he'd been increasingly verbally abusive in recent months. Police left a message with the husband. With no proof, police could only admonish the man to refrain from harassing and threatening phone calls and text messages. The woman was advised to change the locks on her house and secure a restoring order.  

3:34 p.m. – A Lenox Court resident told police her child was hit in the eye by a snowball by another child who had thrown it maliciously. NKFD rescue was called to treat the child. No one was charged.
