Police Investigating Theft of Deceased Woman's Morphine

North Kingstown Police are investigating the theft of morphine from an area woman under hospice care who died recently.

Police said a woman who lived with the victim called police on March 11 to report that a former friend of the victim stopped by the house to express her condolences.

The visitor asked if hospice had taken the deceased woman's medicine, and then, when the resident went into the other room, the visitor reportedly took a box containing a vial of morphine and several syringes.

The woman then abruptly left the house and the resident, reportedly aware that the morphine was just stolen, yelled for her to stop, but she didn't.

Police are investigating.
