Police Arrest Pair in Walmart Computer Theft

North Kingstown man and woman reportedly stole the computer and exchanged it for drugs.

North Kingstown Police on Sunday arrested a North Kingstown man and woman in connection with the theft of an all-in-one computer from the Ten Rod Road Walmart earlier this month.

Richard Duclos, 22, of 10 McConnell Court, North Kingstown; and Kate M. Fermi, 38, of the same address, are facing charges of shoplifting and conspiracy for allegedly stealing the computer and a universal power charger on Feb. 12.

Police said the two went into the Walmart, removed the security tags from the computer, moved it closer to the exit and eventually walked out of the store with it after spending about 30 minutes in the electronics section hatching a plan.

The whole thing was caught on security cameras, including video of one of the suspects repeatedly going in and out of the store to talk to a man who drove them to and from the store but apparently did not enter.

Police were able to identify Duclos and Fermi and tracked them down to their address on Sunday, taking them into custody at around 8:30 p.m.

The total value of the stolen items is $427.97. Duclos reportedly told police that they were sold and he ended up getting 10 bags of heroin and an eight ball of cocaine out of the deal.

Both are due in court for arraignment on March 11.
