North Kingstown Police Log: Oct. 2 - Oct. 4

Two arrests, one for DUI, another for evading officers and driving in possession of a controlled substance, highlight police activity.

Warwick Man Charged with DWI

North Kingstown Police arrested Joseph Aurelio, 49, of 177 Tollgate Road, Warwick, for driving under the influence at 1:40 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2. Officers report they found Aurelio passed out in his van with the engine running after Aurelio had apparently driven off the road. After tapping on the window and yelling in attempts to wake Aurelio, the responding officers opened the door of the van which finally stirred Aurelio, according to reports.

According to police, Aurelio appeared delirious and glossy-eyed. When asked where he had been that night, Aurelio said he had been to the Officers' Club and had only had three beers, police said. (Later, Aurelio reportedly stated he was returning from the Village Tavern [Pub] in Coventry, where he drank three glasses of wine.)

Aurelio allegedly failed the field sobriety test and was taken to the North Kingstown Police Department. There, Aurelio's blood alcohol level was allegedly measured at 0.206 and 0.207 in respective tests.

North Kingstown Man Charged with Possession of Marijuana, Eluding Police

Carlos Campbell, 26, of 112 Deerfield Ct. was arrested 6:28 a.m. on Sunday after police reportedly clocked his vehicle going 58 mph in a 30 mph zone on Tower Hill Road. Campbell allegedly increased his speeds and extinguished his car's lights before turning on to Flagg Lane after police turned on emergency lights.

After cutting through a backyard to get back onto Tower Hill Road, Campbell finally stopped the car. Once Campbell exited the car, police allegedly found an open bottle of Narragansett beer in the driver's side door panel. According to police, Campbell admitted to having five beers at Casey's in South Kingstown and then going to sleep at a friend's house, where he woke up and drank two more beers before heading home.

While searching Campbell's car, officers allegedly found a backpack containing a digital scale and a glass jar filled with 6.68 grams of marijuana. Campbell was charged with two misdemeanors (one for reckless driving/eluding police and another for possession of marijuana) and a violation for driving while in possession of controlled substances.
