NK Police Log: Shoplifting, Theft & Pot Possession

Police Investigating B&E on Pendar Road

A North Kingstown woman returned from the high school’s performance of “Footloose” last Friday to find her home had been broken into. According to reports, the 45-year-old woman realized something was amiss when she went to put on her pajamas and realized that her jewelry box was on the floor and empty. Police believe the suspect stood on top of two trash barrels to enter the house through a bathroom window. The woman believes that the suspect may be her ex-boyfriend, who has driven past her work in Cranston on three occasions recently. The total value of the stolen jewelry is approximately $1,105.

NK Man Gets Busted for Pot Possession While Shoplifting at Walmart

Alexander T. Coburn, 20, of 645 Ten Rod Road in North Kingstown, was arrested March 10 at 3:15 p.m. on charges of shoplifting and possession of marijuana.

According to a Walmart employee, Coburn hid a hack saw, rope, tune-up kit and a 6-inch dry wall saw in his backpack before purchasing a stick of deodorant and a knife and tried to leave the store. The employee allegedly asked Coburn to come back into the store and called police. When officers arrived and searched Coburn, they found a clear bag filled with marijuana in one of his pockets along with a prescription bottle with a small green block, consistent with hashish, inside.

He is scheduled to appear in Third District Court on March 27.

NK Man Charged With Pot Possession

Earl Clarence Hawkins, 20, of 6101 Post Road, Apt. 62 in North Kingstown, was arrested March 11 at 12:40 p.m. on charges of possession of marijuana.

A police officer noticed a suspicious car in front of Hawkins home and, as he drove by, noted that the car’s occupants “froze” when they saw him then quickly looked away. While on foot patrol, the officer encountered Hawkins – who had just exited the car before it left the area. According to the officer, Hawkins smelled of marijuana.

Hawkins allegedly told the officer he had nothing illegal on him. When the officer asked him what was in the clear bag in his hand, Hawkins allegedly told him it was “pot” and that he had forgotten about it. The marijuana was later measured at 3.10 grams.

He is scheduled to appear in Third District Court on March 27.

EG Woman Charged With Shoplifting From Kohl's

Molly Grace Behrends, 22, of 50 Ezechiel Carre Road in East Greenwich, was arrested March 12 at 6:45 p.m. on charges of shoplifting from Kohl’s.

Behrends allegedly stole a shirt and a pair of push-up pads for a bra by removing them from her packaging and hiding them in her purse.

She is scheduled to appear in Third District Court on March 27.

Daniel Pierre Terry, 33, of Potowomut Road in East Greenwich, was arrested March 12 at 9:37 a.m. following a bench warrant for his arrest.

Vanessa M. Mantia, 24, of 10 State St., Apt. J. in North Kingstown, was arrested March 11 at 4:05 p.m. following a bench warrant for her arrest.

Nicole Erin Bragan, 23, of 49 Sanford Ave. in North Kingstown, was arrested March 10 at 4:15 p.m. on charges of driving on a suspended license. Police discovered Bragan’s license was suspended after she was in a car accident on Newcomb Road.
