NK Police Log: Pair Attempts to Rob Two Walmarts in One Day

The following information was supplied by the North Kingstown Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Two Women, Two Walmarts, 6 Charges

Wendi Lynn Withrow, 39, of 2323 Middle Road in East Greenwich, and Erin Lee Netro, 29, of 21 Albatross Drive in Saunderstown, were arrested Oct. 8 at 4:21 p.m. following a shoplifting incident at Walmart.

According to reports, a sales associate at Walmart stopped Withrow (who had arrived at Walmart with Netro but split up during their shopping) as she exited the store into the lawn and garden section with 31 items in her carriage. When the sales associate asked Withrow for a receipt, Withrow gave her one from earlier in the day when she purchased a bottle of water and Peanut M&Ms from the Walmart in Coventry. When the employee questioned Withrow, she started to walk away before being stopped by a loss prevention officer at the store.

Police reportedly found Netro in the passenger seat of Withrow’s car, with new picture frames and wall art with Walmart packaging still on them in plain view. According to police, Netro told them the items were gifts from Withrow’s mother.

While speaking with police, Withrow allegedly told officers that she had not gone to Walmart that day with the intention of shoplifting but suspected Netro would because she has done it in the past. Withrow reportedly said Netro loads up a shopping cart with merchandise and then walks out of the entrance with the fewest employees while holding cash and an old receipt.

Withrow also told officers the wall art and picture frames in her car were already there and she had no idea where they came from. Surveillance tapes at the Coventry Walmart caught Netro leaving the store with a carriage full of merchandise at 11:03 a.m. that day and walk to the same white Toyota Withrow was driving, reports indicate.

The 31 items Withrow allegedly tried to steal from North Kingstown totaled $417.62 while the carriage that Netro abandoned in electronics had 69 items totaling $431.65. The total cost of the goods allegedly stolen from the Coventry location was $481.25.

Withrow is facing felony charges of shoplifting and conspiracy and a misdemeanor charge of habitual offender for shoplifting.

Netro is charged with receiving stolen goods, conspiracy and habitual offender for shoplifting.
