Elderly Man Accused of Assaulting Woman

George Bashir Hayek, Jr., 78, of 16 Westridge Ct. in North Kingstown was arrested Sept. 8 at 11:53 p.m. on charges of domestic assault and domestic disorderly conduct.

Police arrived to Hayek’s home for a domestic disturbance after the fact to find his victim crying uncontrollably and bleeding from a cut above her eye. Police also noted bruising around her left eye and cheek and blood in her hair and on her shirt.

Hayek told police that the woman had become upset with another family member during an event at their home. According to Hayek, the woman shoved him in the chest when he confronted her about her behavior. (Police noted that Hayek told officers he had heart surgery the year prior and repeatedly lifted his shirt to show officers his old surgical scar.) When he returned home after dropping family members off at their homes, Hayek told police that the woman jumped on him and he was forced to pin her down to restrain her.

According to the victim’s version of the story, she did lose her temper while family was over but did not jump on Hayek when he returned to the residence. She told police that Hayek allegedly pushed her to the ground and began striking her face. According to reports, Hayek’s right hand was bloody and was cut in several places. Hayek allegedly could not explain the injuries or why several ceramic items in the kitchen were broken. (When an officer inquired about the broken house wares, Hayek allegedly told the officer he was “seeing things.”)

The woman was brought to South County Hospital for her injuries while Hayek was places under arrest for domestic assault and disorderly conduct. According to police, he was uncooperative during processing at the police department.

Roland H. Carlow, 50, of 21 Oak Tree Drive in North Kingstown was arrested Sept. 8 at 11:50 a.m. following a bench warrant for his arrest.

Donna Ann Palmer, 49, of 32 Baker St. in Warwick was arrested Sept. 8 at 7:51 p.m. following a bench warrant for her arrest. According to reports, police picked up Palmer after finding her walking down Post Road trying to hitch a ride from passing vehicles. She was allegedly wearing pajama bottoms and sporting unkempt hair. 

Chelsea Louise Leighton, 32, of 126 Middle St. in North Kingstown was arrested Sept. 9 at 11:19 a.m. following a bench warrant for her arrest.
