NK Native and Tsarnaev Widow Subpoenaed in Waltham Triple Homicide

A federal grand jury has subpoenaed Katherine Russell, the widow of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev, in connection with the 2011 triple homicide in Waltham, according to an AP report in the Boston Globe.

Authorities believe Tsarnaev, who was killed in a shootout with police following the marathon, and Ibragim Todashev, who was shot to death by an FBI agent in Orlando after he allegedly attacked the agent during questioning, committed the murders. Todashev confessed to as much before he was killed, according to authorities.

A grand jury asked Russell, of North Kingstown, R.I., for items belonging to one of the Waltham victims, Brendan Mess, her attorney told the AP. Her attorney said she does not have any of Mess’ items.

Mess, Raphael Teken and Erik Weissman were killed at Mess’ Waltham apartment on Sept. 11, 2011.

Russell, a 2007 graduate of North Kingstown High School, is caring for her young daughter and working for a family friend, her attorney, Amato A. DeLuca, told reporters in late August of last year. He also said Russell had not reverted to Christianity, as some tabloids had reported. 

“She remains a Muslim and still wears a hijab,” DeLuca said. 

NBC10 reported that neighbors in the quiet upper middle class neighborhood said the family has kept to themselves and it is unclear if Russell is still living there.
