NK ACO, Harbor Master, Rescue Raccoon

The Animal Control officer sent along this photo of the animal, which looks a bit stressed.

You never know what to expect when you're in law enforcement.

Take this seafaring raccoon, for example.

The animal was rescued after getting trapped on a boat Sunday just off the town wharf.

The Animal Control officer sent along this photo of the animal, which looks a bit stressed. Or disappointed.

ACO Holly Duffany and Harbormaster Keith Vellone teamed up to rescue the raccoon.

Luckily, nobody was harmed, they said, or had any contact with the animal.

The raccoon did not seem to be sick or rabid.

"However, he thought it was a beautiful day to go sailing!" Duffany said.

The incident serves as a reminder that if you see a sick raccoon — or even just one that is hanging around — don't approach it. Stop and call animal control or the North Kingstown Police Department right away.
