Intruder Accesses Air National Guard Base in Quonset

The intruder accessed base property for 30 minutes before hopping a fence and running off.

North Kingstown Police and Air National Guard Security Forces are investigating an intrusion onto the Air National Guard base at Quonset State Airport after a man allegedly got onto base property and spent about 30 minutes before hopping a fence and leaving.

The Air National Guard Security Forces alerted North Kingstown police to the intrusion on May 19 after a sergeant was notified by Electric Boat security staff that a man had trespassed onto the base, entering and leaving at the same access point.

The area he entered was on the Army side of the base, police said, and it is currently under construction with a large amount of construction materials on hand.

A review of security footage showed the man, described as a white middle aged man wearing blue jeans, a dark sweatshirt and a baseball hat, enter the base near the intersection of Conway Avenue and Cripe Street at around 12:25 a.m.

He then walked east on Conway Avenue and out of camera view. Thirty minutes later, he reappears on camera in the same area he entered the base. He then climbed the fence, leaving base property and walked west on Conway Avenue. Soon after leaving, according to a police report, he started to run, eventually disappearing from view.

The suspect was clean shaven and had short hair, police said.

Air National Guard Security Forces officials did not find any evidence of tampering.

Police are investigating.
