Illegal Hunting Stand, Raw Meat found by Property Owner

An apparent illegal hunting setup was discovered in a wooded area off Post Road.

North Kingstown police reported that a Richard Smith Drive man discovered a hunting tree stand and raw meat on his property and was concerned about someone getting shot by accident.

Police said they responded to the property on April 27 and in an area about 50 yards into the back yard they saw a hunting tree stand. They also found raw meat on the ground, construction materials and two plastic containers that appeared to contain pheromone bait.

Police disabled the tree stands and plastic containers.

The state Department of Environmental Management was contacted.

Police said the area is behind the commercial building at 7700 Post Road and the property owner was "concerned that someone could be walking on his property and could be hunt by a hunter," according to a police report.

The area in question is a swatch of mostly undeveloped land that runs between Post Road and the southern shoreline of Mill Creek.
