Donegan Arraigned for Alleged Assault

The alleged assault was captured on cell phone video and it shows another man being beaten.

Jack Donegan was arraigned on simple assault charges on Tuesday in District Court.

Donegan, the son of the North Kingstown woman and lawyer who had social host laws against her dismissed, was released on his own recognizance.

The alleged assault was captured on cell phone video and it shows another man being beaten.

Police said the assault occurred late on April 29 after the victim denied Donegan's accusation that he stole jewelry from the house.

The victim told police that he and others were at the house drinking Grey Goose vodka shortly before the assault took place. All the subjects were in the living room and the victim told police that Jayne Donegan was home but later left to go out for the evening.

After the assault, the victim reportedly received an offer from Jack Donegan asking him not to press charges in exchange for $500 in compensation.

Another person at the house apparently recorded the assault on video and was "later circulated," police said, and in the video, Donegan was seen punching the victim repeatedly as the victim did not fight back.

Police said the victim had noticeable bruising to his face and back area when the assault was first reported on May 1.

Police said the person who recorded the video told police during the investigation that Jayne Donegan was not at the house and alcohol was not consumed.
