A prominent local youth sports leader is facing felony charges of selling bath salts to a detective out of his adult video store in West Warwick.

Glen Lonardo, 48, the owner of X-Citement Video on Quaker Lane in West Warwick, is also a board member of Cranston League for Cranston's Future and president of the CLCF Chiefs, a football and cheerleading league for children in grades 4 through 8. He also heads the CLCF Girls Softball league.

Court records show Lonardo allegedly delivered synthetic cathinones — a schedule I controlled substance — to a West Warwick detective on Jan. 17. The drug, identified as Alpha-PVP, is one of several variants of what more commonly is referred to as bath salts.

Lonardo was arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver on Jan. 18 and was initially ordered held without bail. He was released on Jan. 21 on $25,000 surety bail after entering no plea to the charges, which is customary for felony arraignments in District Court.

He is due to reappear in court on April 14 for for an Attorney General conference.

Records also show that Lonardo registered a business name of Buddha's Bazaar — the same name of a smoke shop on Cranston Street that was the site of a raid by Cranston Police last August. That raid came after a series of incidents involving people high on bath salts within walking distance of the shop.

Calls to lawyers for Lonardo were not immediately returned.

West Warwick Police have not yet released any details about the circumstances surrounding the arrest.

More details will be posted as they become available.
