Area Man Receives Suspicious Package Containing Amphetamines

Package included a note that said "Love You."

Unexpected packages in the mail can be exciting — or alarming, as one Gardiner Avenue man found out recently.

On April 15, police said the man came to police headquarters to report that he got a suspicious package that day.

The man said he and his wife met the mail carrier as he was delivering mail and they got a bubble-wrapped envelope that needed additional postage of $1.34.

The man said he paid the postage but didn't recognize the name on the envelope, which was addressed to a woman in Richmond, Va. The local family's address was written as the return address.

Inside the package was a box of Orbit gum with two orange pills wrapped in cellophane. Also included was a note card with "Love You" written on it, police said.

The pills were identified as amphetamine and dextroamphetamine.

Police are investigating.
