Amos House will Take Donegan's $5,000 Plea Deal Donation Rejected by MADD
The case against a local mom accused of violating the state's social host laws for a January teen drinking party at her house appears to be resolved.
Amos House will accept the $5,000 donation from North Kingstown mother Jayne Donagan that was previously rejected by Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
Donegan in January was charged with violating the state's social-host law for a party where police responded after reports of teens drinking alcohol and urinating on nearby lawns.
Donegan reportedly refused to the police into her house and in April, she agreed to make the donation to MADD in Rhode Island in exchange for a not guilty filing that she obstructed police the night of the party. That means she would see the charges dismissed if she isn't arrested for one year.
But MADD rejected the donation and the organization said in a release that "as much as we’d like to use the money to educate parents about the dangers of underage drinking, it’s not right for us to accept money under these conditions.”
The Providence Journal reported that Amos House, which provides support and advocacy for the homeless, said it would accept the donation in the name of giving people second chances.
