Get Out: Bands By The Beach, River Glow & More

This weekend is filled with affordable, family-friendly events replete with musical talent. So be sure to pull yourself away from the chores this weekend and take advantage of the many sounds of summer.

Where/When: North Beach Clubhouse, 79 Boston Neck Road, Narragansett | Saturday, August 13 from noon to 2 p.m.

Why Go: The army band is slated to perform on the deck at the North Beach Club House and will play patriotic music the first half of the concert, followed by popular music in the second half.

Where/When: Downtown Wakefield | Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 12, 13 and 14 from 4:30 to 10 p.m.; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., respectively

Why Go: Enjoy spy comedy Red Herring or relive the magic of Peter Pan this weekend at the Wakefield Arts and Entertainment Festival benefitting the Comtemporary Theater Company. River fires, music and dancing and karate demostrations are also a major attractions scheduled for this event.

Jon Campbell at the Cross Mills Public Library

Where/When: Cross Mills Public Library, 4417 Old Post Road, Charlestown | Friday, August 12 at 7 p.m.  

Why Go: Native songwriter Jon Campbell will perform Friday at the Cross Mills Public Library as part of the Summer Concert Series. A longtime multi-instrumental singer and songwriter, Campbell crafts performances applicable to those in the Ocean State.

River Glow 

Where/When: Donahue Park in Downtown Westerly | Saturday, August 13 from 7 to 10 p.m.

Why Go: More than 30 bonfires carefully situated on the Pawcatuck River are scheduled to light the way for attendees, entertainers and street vendors. The event will feature jugglers, belly dancing, a steel-drum band and more.

Nightlife Orchestra at the Gazebo

Where/When: At the Gazebo in Downtown Narragansett | Friday, August 12 at 6 p.m.

Why Go: The Nightlife Orchestra has been around since 1988 and is still going strong. The band has performed at venues throughout New England and has even performed for two living US presidents, according to the band's website. Some of the genres played by the big band are modern jazz and rock.
