Wickford Art Fest Co-Director Passes Away

Fredericka "Ricky" McLaughlin, co-director of the 2012 Wickford Art Festival, has passed away.

Frederica "Ricky" McLaughlin, co-director of the , passed away Thursday, Aug. 9 at the age of 70.

"Ricky came to us a few years ago, pouring her creative energy and zest into volunteering her skills and time to helping our association into the 21st century," said Sarah Tallarico, director at the Wickford Art Association's Gallery, in an email to members of the art association on behalf of the board of directors. "Her work ethic was unmatched, her passion for the arts a driving force in creating a successful festival. Ricky was working fervently to help create an unforgettable festival, while all the while struggling with her health."

McLaughlin was unable to attend this year's festival after being hospitalized just days before. Ellen Waxman of Five Main Gallery in Wickford took up a collection during the festival to raise money toward creating a plaque and planting a tree (at the art association's gallery) in McLaughlin's honor.

Born in Philadelphia, McLaughlin was the daughter of the late Col. Fred P. Dollenberg and Marie (Fishgall) Dollenberg. She leaves behind her two sons Reid H. McLaughlin of Maryland and Ryan H. McLaughlin of Switzerland. She also leaves behind grandchildren Chiara, Francesca, Nora and Nathalie. She was the sister of Eric Dollenberg of South Carolina and Gretchen Strzlecki of Pennsylvania.

Her Requiem Eucharist will be held Saturday, Aug. 18 at 11 a.m. at . Burial will be private. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory to Dana Farber Cancer Institute for Breast Cancer or the Home and Hospice Care of RI will be appreciated.
