Obituary: William A. Worthy, Sr.

William A. Worthy, Sr. passed away earlier this month.

The following obituary was provided by Hill Funeral Home in East Greenwich.

William A. Worthy, Sr. passed away February 1, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Darlene V. (Carlson) Worthy.

Born in Wiltshire, England, he was the son of the late William W. and Constance (Austin) Worthy. Worthy started his career on Cunard Cruise Ships where he met his wife. Together they owned the former Billy Bud's Pub in New Rochelle, NY, later moving to Rhode Island, where he became manager of the Food and Beverage Division of the former Chateau DeVille.

Starting in 1983, he worked as a travel agent for the former Thompson Travel in East Greenwich, until retirement. During retirement his love of golf became his part time job at the East Greenwich Golf Course.

He loved listening to his children's musical endeavors and spending as much time as possible with his five grandchildren; the four boys and the princess.

Besides his wife he is survived by his two children, Moira E. Worthy Teixeira and her husband Paul and William A. Worthy, Jr. and his wife Melissa; grandchildren: Austin, Trey, Chelsea, Taylor and Teagan; and sisters, Jacqueline Curtis, Jean Millar and her husband Collin and Moira Bennetton and her husband Kenneth, of Bournemouth, England.

A memorial service will be held Monday, Feb. 25 at 11 a.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 99 Peirce St., East Greenwich. Those who wish may make contributions in his memory to the Special Olypics, 370 George Washington Highway, Smithfield, RI 02917, for the Golf Program.
