Obituary: May A. (Palmer) Black, 78, Avid Gardener

May A. (Palmer) Black, 78, of North Kingstown, died peacefully on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Kent Hospital. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late James H. Palmer, Sr. and Mary (Panizza) Palmer. 

Ms. Black worked as a waitress at various restaurants until her retirement. She attended Calvary Church of North Kingstown, was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 12 and was an avid gardener. 

She leaves her six children: Paulina M. Barbour of West Warwick, Daniel L. Barbour and his wife Nancy of Springfield, VT, Norman W. Barbour and his wife Diane of Warwick, Robert A. Black of Park Rapids, MN, Dawn M. Palmer of Bemidji, MN, and Raymond S. Black of Exeter. She was the mother of the late Nancy A. Barbour. Cherished grandmother 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was the sister of John Palmer of Florida and Claire Foley of Alton Bay, NH. 

Her Funeral & Burial will be private. Calling hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory to Roger Williams Park Zoo Botanical Gardens, 1000 Elmwood Ave, Providence, RI 02905 will be appreciated.
