Obituary: Laurie R. Muddiman, 56

Laurie, a nurse practitioner, a missionary, and a musician, touched many people with her gifts, and indeed taught many lessons without words.

Laurie R. Muddiman, 56, passed peacefully in her loving husband's arms on August 15. She was surrounded by friends and family on her last day on this earth. Her strength and determination were matched only by her faith in her courageous battle with cancer.

An example to all who knew her, Laurie lived a life of purpose, often showing it with actions instead of words. She was active in South Pointe Church, and had previously been involved with the youth group at Christ Church, chaperoning trips to New Hampshire and Colorado. She traveled to Kenya on a Christian medical mission, serving native Kenyans who sometimes walked days to get to the clinic. She was a friend of Bill W., and a listening post for many, many friends and family, whom she offered kindness and wisdom in return.

She was a lover of music and musical instruments, an accomplished piano player, and continued to take violin lessons despite her illness.

Laurie was a RN, CNP (URI), and impacted the lives of many parents and children in her long career in pediatrics, working first in Connecticut and then Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children's Hospital, before moving to private practice nursing. She was most recently employed by East Greenwich Pediatrics as a nurse practitioner and leaves many close friends and colleagues.

Laurie had a strong circle of friends and family that offered her support and encouragement through her fight, and she was grateful to all for the comfort they provided her. Laurie touched many people with her gifts, and indeed taught many lessons without words. Laurie was the proud mother of Samuel, 24 and Peter, 22, who were with her throughout her illness. Per their request, those attending the service are asked to wear bright colors as a celebration of her life. The service, on Saturday, Aug. 24, at 11 a.m., will be followed by fellowship at Christ Church, Main Street, East Greenwich.
