Obituary: Irene M. Spencer, 77

Known for her paintings, North Kingstown resident Irene Spencer passed away this week at the age of 88.

The following obituary was provided by Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home.

Irene M. Spencer, formerly Lange, passed away Monday, April 15. She was 88 years old. She was wife of the late Philip G. Spencer, Jr. Born in Coventry, she was the daughter of the late Edward K. and Eva (L'Heureux) Lange.

After graduating from Roger Williams Hospital School of Nursing, Spencer worked at Roger Williams Hospital. She then graduated from Columbia Graduate School of Nursing and worked at the New York State Psychiatric Institute. She ended her nursing career working at South County Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

She was a prolific painter and was a lifetime member of the Wickford Art Association and had served as director of their art gallery. She was also an avid gardener and enjoyed traveling after retirement. She will be remembered as a beloved friend and good neighbor.

She leaves two children, Julie Spencer and her boyfriend Adam Galonski of Nashua, NH and Paul Spencer and his wife Kelly Patterson of Middletown, NY; a brother, Edward K. Lange, Jr. and his wife Joan of Englewood, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, April 24 at 10 a.m. in St. Bernard Church, 275 Tower Hill Road, North Kingstown. Burial will be private. Visiting hours Tuesday, April 23 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Wickford Art Association Scholarship Fund, 36 Beach Street, Wickford, RI 02852 will be appreciated
