Obituary: Irene E. Towne, 80

A former school bus aide and volunteer at the Pet Refuge passed away this week at the age of 80.

Irene E. Towne, formerly Wright, of North Kingstown passed away Thursday, Feb. 21 at her home. She was 80 years old. She leaves behind her husband of 58 years, David L. Towne.

Born in Dover Township, MI, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Wright and Maggie Cornell, and the step-daughter of the late Earl Cornell.

Towne was a school bus aide for the Town of North Kingstown. She was a former Sunday school teacher in Adrian, MI.

She would bake banana bread, cookies and brownies for fundraising events at the North Kingstown Pet Refuge Animal Shelter. She also loved to crochet and grow flowers and tomato plants. She enjoyed trips to Block Island with her husband, especially on their anniversary, and watching the water at Point Judith.

She loved spending time with her family; shopping trips and volunteering with her daughter, Darlene; and going to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's get-togethers.

Besides her husband, she leaves two children, Donald and Darlene; five grandchildren, Amy, Eleanor, Angela, Zachary and Alison; and three great-grandchildren, Aaron, Serah and Maxwell.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, Feb. 25, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown. Her funeral and burial will be private.
