Obituary: Generose Gabel, 83, Former Nun

Generose Gabel, Ph.D., 83, of North Kingstown, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Riverview Healthcare Community.  Born in Fond du Lac, WI, she was the daughter of the late Ferdinand W. Gabel and Rose J. (Hollinger) Gabel.

Miss Gabel was employed as a College Professor at Trinidad State College for many years, where she taught Modern British and American Literature. She was a published poet and a former Nun with the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes.  She was a graduate of Marian College, Marquette University, and The University of Wisconsin where she received her Ph.D.    She was a Communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church. 

She leaves her dear friend and caregiver, Marguerite R. Robinson of North Kingstown.  She was the sister of the late Helen R. Gabel, Lillian E. Gabel, Grace M. Gabel, and Gladys G. Gabel.  She also leaves many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 20, 2014 at 10:00 am in St. Francis de Sales Church, 301 School Street, North Kingstown.  Burial will follow in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery.  Calling hours are respectfully omitted.  In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory to The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Agnes, 320 County Road K, Fond du Lac, WI 54937 will be appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to THE CRANSTON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME of WICKFORD.
