Former State Trooper James Kyle Passes Away at 84

James Kyle was a lieutenant with the RI State Police for many years.

Former Rhode Island State Trooper, who served commanding officer of multiple barracks across the state, James F. Kyle Jr. of North Kingstown passed away Feb. 10 at South Kingstown Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. 

Born in Bridgeport, CT, he was a son of the late James F. Kyle, Sr. and Lillian J. (Lawrence) Kyle.

Kyle was a lieutenant with the Rhode Island State Police, where he served as the commanding officer in each barrack before his retirement in 1971. During his career he served in the uniform division, detective division and the Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI). After retirement, he worked for Fleet Bank as a Security Investigator. He was a member of the RI State Troopers Association and a member of Harmony Lodge #9, F & A.M.  He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

He leaves behind his wife, Nancy (Eaton) Kyle and two children: James F. “Rick” Kyle, III (Ret’d Sgt. Warwick PD) and his companion Sandra Kyle of Warwick, and Linda Kyle and her companion Gary Cullers of North Kingstown.  Cherished grandfather of Thomas J. “T.J” Kyle of Warwick.  He was the brother of Henry A. Kyle, Mary Peck, and Kathleen Hager.  He was the father-in-law of Jeanne Muto-Kyle of Warwick. 

A Private Graveside Service will be held on Thursday at Elm Grove Cemetery, North Kingstown.  Calling hours are respectfully omitted.
