No More Silence: Local Moms to Honor Newtown Anniversary This Saturday

On Saturday, December 14, Moms will gather at over 50 events in more than 35 states to honor the victims of the tragedy in Newtown and the thousands of Americans lost to gun violence every year. All events will include a communal bell-ringing to remember the victims and to show our resolve to never again be silent about gun violence. These events are co-sponsored by Mayors Against Illegal Guns.

In Providence, Rhode Island at the First Unitarian Church of Providence, 1 Benevolent Street, we’ll hear from Samantha Richard, Julia Wyman, Mayor James Diossa, Rev. Don Anderson and Congressman David Cicilline about the need to reduce gun violence.  Our local sponsors, with whom we share a common goal of gun violence prevention, include Rhode Island Coalition Against Gun Violence, First Unitarian Church of Providence’s Standing on the Side of Love Committee and Rhode Island State Council of Churches.  Adding to the bell ringing theme will be a performance by Gordon School's Handbell Ensemble performing, "This Little Light of Mine."  At 9:35 AM, bells will ring loudly for one minute in Providence, Barrington, Kingston, Portsmouth, North Scituate, Middletown, Central Falls, Cranston, Newport, Bristol, Block Island, East Greenwich, Greenville and Alton, honoring the first anniversary of the Sandy Hook tragedy with a promise to continue making noise on gun reform until change comes.
