Local Man Nets 250lbs for NK Food Pantry at Wheel of Fortune Party

NK's Richard Johnson appeared on Wheel of Fortune Wednesday night and he made the viewing party about sticking up for the community as well as celebrating his good fortunes.

Richard Johnson of North Kingstown crossed being a contestant on Wheel of Fortune off his bucket list Wednesday night and in the process, collected more than 250 pounds of food for the North Kingstown Food Pantry.

"The party was a great success," Johnson said in an e-mail message. "Thanks to the support of my family and friends I was able to deliver 250 pounds of food this morning."

Johnson never hit a bankrupt or lose a turn and won $4,500 for saying Touch Football at the game's final puzzle during his appearance.

"I asked for an L and it wasn't there and later tried to buy an E and it wasn't there. . . ah well," he said. "It was a lot of fun and I would still do it again."

You can see some highlights from his appearance when he appears on the Rhode Show on Friday morning.

Johnson earned the spot on Wheel of Fortune after getting through a rigorous and exhausting screening process.

Upon returning home, Johnson decided he wanted to pay it forward and chose to host a viewing party at the Knights of Columbus Hall for friends and family to gather as well as show support for the local food bank.
