Kids Cooking Contest Winners Get On TV

Kids ranging in ages 11 to 19 and representing various RI cites and towns, were in the PEGRI TV studio behind the cameras, in the control room and in front of the camera learning by doing.  You could see the excitement on their faces, hear it in their voices.  They were sponges soaking up the "how to" information from their TV Production instructor, Rick Dorman, hardly believing they were in a real TV studio making a broadcast quality video that will be viewed on a local cable access channel by who knows who...?  This was another empowering opportunity provided by the Fit2cook4Kids program whose mission is to help solve the childhood obesity epidemic by training kids to stay fit, prepare delicious, healthy food, while communicating well as young ambassadors of healthful living.

It all started when campers attending the 2013 summer camps asked to compete in teams inspired by the TV program called "Chopped."  New rules evolved and soon we had our own TV reality show, called "Pressure Cooker" where aspiring chefs use their creativity to produce delectable dishes that are judged on taste, presentation and creativity.

This year, winners of Pressure Cooker who attend Fit2cook4Kids camps will get to replicate their creations on camera at the PEGRI TV studio in Cranston, RI.  Afterwards, they'll have the thrill of watching themselves on television.  That's a big deal for young kids who are figuring out their place in the universe.
