North Kingstown High School Musical Production - The Music Man

North Kingstown High School Fine Arts Department's Production of "The Music Man" on March 7,8, and 9 - A showcase of town-wide musical talent

The director of the NKHS Fine Art's Department, Norma Caiazza has chosen Meredith Wilson's tony-award winning musical, "The Music Man" to stage at North Kingstown High School on March 7-9, 2014.

The plot of this beloved show is centered on the exploits of a travelling con man, Harold Hill, (played in this production by senior, Mikhail Hyde) who poses as a boys' band leader, selling band instruments and uniforms to naive, but naturally contrary, Iowan townspeople, promising to create a band with little more than the "Think System" of musical instruction.

Hill plans to cash in and immediately skip town but the town's librarian and piano teacher, Marian Paroo (played in this production by senior Julia Gershkoff) sees through his pretense.  When Hill helps Marian's younger brother, Winthrop, (played by Tim Fine) to overcome his lisp and shyness, Marian begins to fall in love.

North Kingstown, unlike the setting of this musical, River City, Iowa, is home to hundreds of accomplished student musicians.  Mrs. Caiazza has assembled the largest cast ever for this production, calling upon 40 Wickford and Davisville Middle School band members and young singers from the town's elementary schools to complement the cast of at least 80 high school actors, dancers, singers, pit orchestra and tech crew members.

The NKHS Fine Arts Department will present four performances of "The Music Man"; Friday, March 7 at 7pm, Saturday, March 8 at 2 and 7pm and Sunday, March 9 at 2pm.  Tickets will be sold in advance of the show at Dave's in Wickford and Quonset, The North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce, the North Kingstown High School and Baker's Pharmacy in Jamestown and are $12 in advance, and $16 at the door.
