Catherine Little Bert of the Bert Gallery in Providence will introduce us to the many women artists, patrons and organizers who are part of Rhode Island’s artistic history. Even though women did not have the right to vote, were limited to a few respectable jobs and often dependent on men for financial support, Rhode Island women such as Mrs. Jesse Metcalf, Emma Swann, Rosa Peckham and Mary C. Wheeler are but a few of a long list of women responsible for the cultural foundation in Rhode Island. Women were founders of the Rhode Island School of Design, the Providence Art Club, the Handicraft Club and the Newport Art Association.  Please register.
