Hodgson Considers Running For AG

The 2-term state senator from North Kingstown worked as an Assistant Attorney General earlier in his career.

State Sen. Dawson Hodgson (Dist. 35-NK, EG, SK, Narr.) is considering a run for state attorney general in 2014, he said Thursday.

“I haven’t made my final decision but it’s something I’d like to do,” he said. Hodgson, a Republican, lives in North Kingstown. He’s in the middle of his second term as state senator. Attorney General Peter Kilmartin is a Democrat.

“I would like to be the next attorney general and i’m going to be taking the next few months to talk to friends and family about it,” he said. He will be featured on RIPR’s Political Roundtable Friday morning, discussing his plans.

He said Thursday despite his consideration of the run, he would not abandon his constituents this next year.

“I’m absolutely committed to serving out the rest of my term,” he said. “I’m not going to be distracted.”

Hodgson will be sitting down for a more extensive interview with Patch next week.
