Year After Teen's Death, Friend Raises Money For Skate Park In His Honor

Jordan Nonnenmacher, who died in a car crash in May 2012, loved skateboarding.

One year ago, 19-year-old Jordan Nonnenmacher died when his car left the road and struck a tree on Hamilton Allenton Road. . In elementary school, Jordy wrote he wanted to become the “best skatborder ever.”

Now, Jordy's friend Cooper Hammond is raising money for a skate park in Jordy's honor for his senior project. Using the money-raising website, Rally.org, Hammond has raised more than $1,000 with a goal of $3,000.

If you are interested in learning more, check out the Rally.org page for the project, called "Spot for Jordy."

From the website:

"My name is Cooper Hammond. I am a senior at North Kingstown High School and for my senior project I have taken on the challenge of having a skate spot built in memory of Jordan Nonnenmacher, a young man and good friend to many who passed away last year. He loved skateboarding so much, it brought him such genuine happiness. Please show your support by donating what you can, every cent is so gratefully appreciated. Thank you."
