Patch Picks: Hiking, Baseball & Barracudas

Spring vacation is almost here and Patch found a few ways to banish your kids' boredom next week.

While school vacations mean you get to spend more time with your precious little ones, it also makes for an expensive - not to mention stressful - week of trying to entertain them on a budget. Make sure the kids use their five days free of school to take advantage of the warmer weather next week. With tempertures on the rise,  there are plenty of low-cost outdoor activities, but as spring also spells out rainy days here and there, Patch found a variety of fun vacation activities that will delight your children on a dime, rain or shine.

1.Frosty Drew Classic Trail Run/Walk and Children's Fun Run

Where/When: Ninigret Park, 62 Park Lane, Charlestown | Saturday, April 16 at 11 a.m.

Why Go: Get the kids outside and explore nature together at the 2nd Annual Frosty Drew Classic.

Pricing: $15 per person, proceeds benefit the Frosty Drew Nature Center and Observatory.

Where/When: The , 100 Boone St. | The science starts at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19.

Why Go: Just because school's out doesn't mean the kids can't get excited about learning! Join other youngsters for a fast-paced and exciting science lesson.

Pricing: Free.

Where/When: McCoy Stadium, 1 Columbus Ave., Pawtucket | Wednesday, April 20 from 6:15 to 8:30 p.m.

Why Go: Enchant your children with an evening full of America's favorite past time, complete with hotdogs, baseball gloves and maybe even a beer or two for mom and dad. This special game doubles as a fundraiser for the Massachusetts Make A Wish Foundation.

Pricing: $21 for a six-pack of tickets.

Where/When: , 221 Shady Lea Road, North Kingstown | Open daily on Sundays and school vacations from noon to 4 p.m.

Why Go: Check out this hands-on educational aquarium that hosts a variety of local marine animals and teach your children what's really lurking in Narragansett Bay.

Pricing: $5 per person

Where/When: , located at 9 Phillips St., North Kingstown has hundreds of kayaks for sale and rent. They are open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and open at 9 a.m. on the weekends.

Why Go: Kayaking is a great way to get outside and on the water without getting wet. Get up close and personal with some of NK's and South County's waterways on the next sunny day.
