Two NK Drug Deaths Linked To 12 Others Since March

The Rhode Island Department of Health has confirmed two additional deaths linked to Acetanilide, n-1-Phenethyl-4-Piperidyl — also known as acetyl fentanyl —an illegal synthetic opiate with properties similar to morphine. These most recent deaths, which bring the total number of deaths linked to this drug in Rhode Island to 14, occurred on May 26. On that date, two men who were taken from a house on Tower Hill Road in North Kingstown and subsequently died.

When Gregg O'Neill told his wife four years ago that he wanted to buy a pizza oven on wheels, she was skeptical. "I’d been making pizza at home for 10 years. Every Friday night was pizza night at the house, making my own dough and sauce, just doing it in the oven on a pizza stone," O'Neill said. "The next step for me was to get a wood-fired oven for the backyard. In investigating wood-fired ovens, I found out about people out West with ovens on custom-built trailers doing catering."

Some people sum up the best of a place. Norm MacKay was one of those people for North Kingstown. . He leaves behind a raft of friends, both people he knew well and those he encountered only briefly.  "Norm was always there for everybody," said Tim Sharp, owner of the Beach Rose Cafe on Brown Street.

The Town Council voted 5-0 to spend up to $75,000 on a market analysis of North Kingstown at a meeting last week. The proposal was put forward by the Economic Development Advisory Board and Economic Development Manager Paige Bronk.

12-Year-Old Killed In Providence Lived In NK Last Year

The 12-year-old girl killed at a graduation party in Providence Saturday night used to live in North Kingstown, attending Quidnessett Elementary School last year. Aynis Vargas was shot and killed Saturday night while attending a graduation party at a house on 256 Hartford Ave. in Providence.

The director of the NK Senior Center told police someone stole a patio set and bench from the center over the weekend. They were all anchored by padlocks that had been cut. Three umbrella holders had been damaged as well. A check of area furniture consignment shops and Craigslist did not turn up any leads. The Senior Center does not have surveillance cameras.
