Lafayette Band Show Helps Church's Mission

The community band continued its free summer concert series at St. John the Divine Church in Saunderstown Wednesday.

The Lafayette Band continued its series of free summer performances Wednesday night, this time helping raise money for a good cause.

This week's concert took place at St. John the Divine Church in Sauderstown. The church took the opportunity to pair the concert with an ice cream social and bake sale to raise money for the church's mission. Dozens turned out on the church lawn at 6 p.m. Wednesday to hear Broadway showtunes and patriotic standards.

The Lafayette Band of North Kingstown is a non-profit community concert band whose mission is to strengthen North Kingstown and surrounding communities through music. More than 125 years old, it is one of the oldest bands in continuous existence in Rhode Island.
