Grab & Go Kids Planner: Stories, Beasts And Light Gardens

Grab the kids and head out the door this week!

One more weekend to go until the monsters – I mean, children – are back in school! In honor of the last hoorah, here are a few activities to entertain the kiddies this weekend.

 

Where/When: North Kingstown Free Library, 100 Boone St. | Saturday, Feb. 26 at 10 a.m.

Why Go: Last year, nearly 100 endangered North Atlantic right whales made an appearance in the Rhode Island Sound. Learn if this is a normal occurence from Dr. Robert Kenney, an associate marine research scientist and professor at the University of Rhode Island. Also learn about the history, biology and occurrences of other whales in the Ocean State.

Why Go: Come create a beast all your own to be featured in the North Kingstown Bestiary, a book of beasts. Local artist Terry Gay will be on hand to help kids craft the best beast.

Where/When: Ballard Park, Newport | Friday & Saturday, Feb. 25 and 26 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Why Go: No need to drag the kids to this kind of garden: they'll be jumping at the chance to check it out! Head over the bridges to Newport's Ballard Park for the 6th Annual Illuminated Garden, with over 1,000 lights and light scultptures on hand.

Why Go: Check out this twist on a much-loved classic at the North Kingstown Free Library.

Where/When: Voila, 31 W. Main St. | Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.

Why Go: Let the kids get in touch with their artistic side while also learning a bit about art history. For kids ages 5 years and up.

Pricing: $25, $15 for siblings
