Get Out: Rock, Shakespeare & Home Shows

Five reasons to get out the house...without the kids.

It looks to be a cloudy, rainy weekend. (We know, don't sound so overjoyed.) Though you can just grab a blanket and a bowl of popcorn and simply enjoy a movie, we have some ideas to get out of the house and enjoy Little Rhody.

 

1. The Taming Of the Shrew

Where/When: University of Rhode Island's Fine Arts Center, 105 Upper College Rd., Kingston | March 3-5, March 10-12 at 7:3o p.m., March 6 & 13 at 3 p.m.

Why Go: Check out the URI Theatre Department's rendition of 'The Taming Of The Shrew' either this weekend or next. If you need a good laugh, this classic comedy might do the trick.

Pricing: $16 general, $12 seniors & URI faculty/staff, $10 students.

2. 9th annual southern rhode island home show

Where/When: Ryan Center, One Lincoln Almond Plaza, Kingston | March 5, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; March 6, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: Whether you're looking to add some more bells and whistles to your home or just looking to browse, this show is a great crowd pleaser that attracts more than 10,000 buyers annually.

Pricing: $7, free for kids 12 and under

 

 

Where/When:  on Saturday, Mar. 5 at 1 p.m. 

Why Go: Five bands will perform for an event organized by Portsmouth High School Senior Sydney Manning as her Senior Project as a benefit for the Women & Infants Hospital Breast Health Center. 

Pricing: $15; All ages welcome

 

 

Where/When: on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 4-5 at 8 p.m. 

Why Go: The Bit Players Comedy Improv Troupe will perform with an emphasis on Blarney and leprechauns.

Pricing: $15; $5 off if you mention Irish Heritage Month

 

5. Coastal Growers' Market

When/Where: Lafayette Mill, 650 Ten Rod Rd., North Kingstown | Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Why Go: Just because it's a bit frosty outside doesn't mean you can't get some high-quality, homegrown products. Head to the safety and warmth of the Lafayette Mill this Saturday for the Coastal Growers' Winter Farmers Market. (Check out on the winter market for a preview of what you'll see there.)
