Get Out: Pirates, Kayaks & Daffodils

Five reasons to get out of the house this weekend.

65 degrees and sunny? All weekend? As if that's not enough reason to get off the couch and out in the world this weekend, we have five truly great events happening right here in North Kingstown for you to check out.

  1. What better way to usher in this fabulous weather than with Wickford's Daffodil Days? There will be a local grade-school artists displaying their artwork throughout the village, a bagpiper, a fashion show in Updike Park and even a dog parade. For more information, check here.
  2. Ever want to try out kayaking? Well, this weekend's here to provide you with a golden opportunity. is holding its at the town beach. Test paddle more than 125 kayaks and try out paddles, lifejackets and other gear, for a donation of $5 (or five canned goods) to the North Kingstown Food Pantry. Kicks off both Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  3. One word  – pirates. Help Smith's Castle celebrate its with pirates, soldiers, sutlers and artisans at the historic site. Explore the 17th century and shop for pottery, tour the historic house and enjoy the gorgeous view of the cove. Runs on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m.
  4. The North Kingstown Community Chorus will hold its this weekend, one on Saturday at 7 p.m. and the other on Sunday at 3 p.m. Listen to musical stylings ranging from musical theater, folk, gospel and modern hits. Ticket are $10 in advance at The Book Garden, Flowers by Bert & Peg, and the NK Chamber of Commerce or for $12 at the door.
  5. Another sure sign that spring is here – yard sales. This weekend, North Kingstown will be stockpiled with them.
  • - Annual fundraisier for the NKHS sailing team, featuring clothing, boat hardware, electronics and more. , Sunday at 8 a.m.
  • - Help benefit the NK 10U girls softball with this fundraising yard sale. , Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • - Phillips Post Road Realty will be holding a yard sale fundraiser for the NK Food Pantry. , Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.
