Five Things You Need To Know For Feb. 4

Today's five essentials.

Not to be cliche, but thank God it's Friday! Before you kick off the shoes and begin the weekend relaxation, here are some things you probably need to know for the day.

  1. Two words: more snow. Surprised? We're not. The snow/rain looks to start Saturday and turn to all rain after 5 p.m. For the complete local forecast, check out the National Weather Service.
  2. If you're looking to stock up on ice melt, you better hurry. Stores across the region are out of ice melt, or very close to it. , and are all out right now and employees aren't sure when the next shipments will come in. Be sure to call ahead if you're on the hunt for any ice melt!
  3. Congratulations to Davisville Middle School's Siddarth Koppaka who won last night's District Wide Spelling Bee. After 12 rounds, Koppaka beat out second place Carols Aldrete and correctly spelled "peril" for the win. He will go on to represent North Kingstown at the State Spelling Bee on March 12 at Lincoln Middle School.
  4. The first day of classes for the kicks off tonight at 5 p.m. at the NK Community Center, 15 Beach St. Geared toward students in grades three through five, this program teaches youngsters basic acting techniqures as well as set design, costuming, etc. Classes are $25 per student, though no student will be excluded for lack of fees. For more details, check here.
  5. and stop by North Kingstown High School to donate the red stuff today. This year's snow storms have had a big impact on the Rhode Island Blood Center, which has seen many of its blood drives canceled due to Mother Nature, and is in dire need of donations. Stop by between 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to donate and receive a free pound of Dunkin Donuts coffee.
