EVENT OF THE DAY: Taking Stock of the Environment

A discussion at the library tonight offers insights into how Rhode Island's environment is doing.

Summertime in the Ocean State is perhaps the best time of year. With its beaches, state forests and rivers, Rhode Island offers outdoor enthusiasts countless options, from sailing to paddling, hiking, bike riding and more.

But these activities all rely on the natural environment. They are very important to the local economy and to our quality of life. So how is Rhode Island's environment faring?

Q Kellogg, assistant director of the URI Coastal Institute, and Meg Kerr, watershed program manager for the Narragansett Bay Estuary Program, will present highlights from the Watershed Counts 2011 report at North Kingstown Free Library, 100 Boone St., tonight at 6:30.
