Saunderstown Life Scout Ryan McNaughton, 17, and fellow Boy Scouts started work at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 9, building a rain garden alongside the North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce at 8045 Post Road.

Extraordinary Volunteer Says Efforts 'No Big Deal,' by Brooke Constance White

To say that June Haines likes to help animals would be an understatement. She loves to help them and wants to make the animals at the pet shelter feel as though they are in her own home.

Last week, she was honored for her service and given an award for volunteering more than 2,000 hours to the North Kingstown Pet Shelter and has helped more than 1,000 animals since she started in 2005.

Lafayette Band Show Helps Church's Mission, by Patrick Luce

The Lafayette Band continued its series of free summer performances Wednesday night, this time helping raise money for a good cause.

This week's concert took place at St. John the Divine Church in Sauderstown. The church took the opportunity to pair the concert with an ice cream social and bake sale to raise money for the church's mission. Dozens turned out on the church lawn at 6 p.m. Wednesday to hear Broadway showtunes and patriotic standards.
