DEM Attempting to Capture Black Bear in NK

A black bear has been roaming the area for about two weeks.

 

The search is on for an adult black bear that has been roaming around parts of North Kingstown for the past few weeks.

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management is attempting to capture the bear, according to the Providence Journal. Reports indicate the bear has been spotted in the area of Gilbert Stuart Birthplace and Museum in Saunderstown.

DEM officials warn that, though black bears are not likely to attack humans, residents are urged to remain cautious and not approach a bear if one is spotted. Any bear sightings should be reported to DEM at 401-222-3070.

Bird feeders and other sources tend to attract these bears, so residents are recommended to bring these items inside.
